Is beauty better than functional?

what do you think?
how many times we find ourselves trying to sell a good project that, because of its ugly look, ends in the garbage bin? Do you think an engineer should have some lessons on aesthetics? art? or leave that right minded work to the guy who used to be in ballet lessons at the university?

Hm. Love the cartoon. Interesting question.
I DO think an engineer should have some lessons on aesthetics, and everyone should have a well-rounded “classic” education. and maybe even take ballet..
Beauty makes functionality more palatable for the less imaginative. That makes beauty useful. But in the end, functionality wins, because beauty only gets that second look, those extra five seconds of attention. If it’s not well founded, if it’s not practical, if it’s not real, well, beauty loses. Didn’t you ever listen to the song by Nanci Griffith - Drive in movie and dashboard lights -
Someone should have told her
When beauty is all you offer
How soon the world disovers
That your beauty is gone
It’s gone
